You can download software TV and watch online TV shows?  There is truly a revolution taking place in the world of entertainment and it’s happening as various media forms converge.  Yea, that’s right-satellite television, the internet, movies, and music are all converging.  Where? You may ask.  It’s happening on the PC.   You simply make a quick software download to your computer and it’s done. 

The worlds of TV, motion pictures and music have really evolved within the last century.  Of course, the internet has made everything much easier to synchronize.  Entertainment media is developing far beyond what could have been imagined just a few years ago.

First, it was the world of motion pictures.  Silent motion pictures at that.  Then sound was added and then “big budget” movies were rolled out from the big studios of Hollywood.  The “Golden Era” of the movies was underway.  Then, a great little invention was released in it’s in the experimentation stage.  It was called television.  Not everyone had one, and of course, it was a small little box that showed only black and white images.   As the two industries continued to progress, both developed independently with great success.  They ruled the entertainment world.  It was either the big movie screen or the small screen of television.  But, something loomed just over the horizon-the internet.

A major shift began to take place as the internet began to take hold in the nineties and now it has the attention of the world.  In many ways, it has been responsible for the erosion of viewership seen today in regard to television.  Don’t get me wrong, television is still a major player, but network TV is suffering.   The expansion of satellite and cable TV and the internet have eaten away at traditional TV viewing habits.  They offer a variety and uniqueness in programming that the networks are finding difficult to compete with.

Another entertainment segment that has definitely come into its own is the music industry.   Initially, the local radio stations ran the show.  But, in the eighties, something hit and hit big.  The music video.  Wow, another revolution in entertainment.  Music videos have become essential to an artist’s exposure to the general market.  It seems that everyone has a video that introduces their new song to the world.

So, what’s new?  It is the marriage of all these media forms into one system. Satellite TV downloaded on your PC is taking the world by storm.  Not just for television, movies, music videos or even digital radio stations.  All the media forms have been combined bringing a new millennium twist to popular entertainment.  Can you imagine what a person from the 1950′s would have said if they could see this technology?  The convenience of having instant access to 3500 satellite channels,including movies, television shows, sports, and music videos right on your PC would be mind-blowing.  All this from a simple one-time software download to your computer.  This is an incredible age.  I wonder what’s next.

Question about buying & downloading software from the Web?

So, I see the convenience in downloading the software just after buying it, but what if something happens, like what if the computer’s hard drive breaks down. I’d then have to re-buy it. Any legal way of backing it up so I don’t have to re-buy it?

If you are usign service’s such as Direct2Drive, Steam or Microsoft MArketpalace( and more than likely many others) your downlaods are linked ot an account, so you cna downlaod it many times ( there is a limit on some or it might use Call home features to check your not downloading it to 500 PC’s)
Use a reliable service and chekc the charge it to an account, not per download.
Ive been using Steam for downloads and goen through 2 PC’s and several OS re-installs and its jsut a case of redownlaoding it (Though steam includes Back-Up tools which i try to use if its a planned re-install icon razz Downloading Software )
