Software Copying
What is the name of the software copying law?

There is a law I heard about but I forget the name.

It basically allowed people to make one backup copy of a commercial software. As long as said software is not going to be shared among people.

I believe this was made back in the day when there were 5.25 inch floppy disks.

depends what you are copying. You are correct though in most jurisdictions, you are allowed to copy for backup but not to distribute, even for a friend. To do this would generally be a breach of copyright. It`s not only for 5.25inch, though the laws did start around then, but affects any form of transferable media.
